EASTER SHORT COURSES 2027
Welcome to our 2027 Easter Short Course programme!
Let us know if you have a Young Scot card, or if you are 26 or under and care experienced (this includes adoption, foster care, care homes or kinship care), as you will be entitled to student price even if you’re not a student!
The Short Courses team also administer a limited bursary fund to support those on low income or with limited learning opportunities who may find fees a barrier to attending a short course. Bursaries, which can usually cover up to 50% of the course fee and accommodation costs, sometimes more, are available to those based in the UK. There is no assistance available for travel or other expenses associated with attending a short course. Please contact us for information on

GAELIC LEVEL 1
This course is ideal for complete beginners with no knowledge of Gaelic – i.e. those who have NO previous learning such as Duolingo or local classes.

GAELIC LEVEL 3
This course is ideal for learners who understand Gaelic at a lower intermediate level and who can hold a conversation using basic structures.

GAELIC LEVEL 5
This course is ideal for learners who understand Gaelic at an upper intermediate level and who can hold a conversation using more detailed structures.

GAELIC LEVEL 7
This course is ideal for advanced learners who have a good understanding of Gaelic and are able to communicate well, demonstrating good speaking and writing skills.

GAELIC SONG WITH CHRISTINE PRIMROSE
Learn Gaelic songs with one of Scotland’s most renowned singers. As well as exceptional tuition, you will get the chance to sing along and learn from the wealth of traditional songs Christine has amassed throughout her life.

LANGUAGE ENRICHMENT WITH ALEC ‘VALTOS’ MACDONALD
This course is for those who already possess a good level of Gaelic but wish to take their abilities to the next level, aiming to make their Gaelic as fluent and natural as possible. While the emphasis is on developing each student’s speaking, listening, and pronunciation skills, the course also explores the fundamentals of the language through phrases, proverbs, idioms, and dialect.

GAELIC LEVEL 2
This course is suitable for beginners who have some Gaelic. At this level, learners will cover:
- new prepositions, such as ‘anns’ and ‘às’;
- prepositional pronouns, such as ‘aig’ and ‘ann’;
- and comparative structures.

GAELIC LEVEL 4
This course will be suitable for learners who understand Gaelic at a lower-intermediate level and are able to hold a more detailed conversation using simple structures.

This course will be suitable for learners who understand Gaelic at an upper-intermediate level and are able to hold a conversation using detailed structures.

Accommodation
Accommodation will be offered on campus again (subject to availability) at Easter and during June, July and August. You may of course make your own arrangements for accommodation offsite, and we also allow course participants to camp on our grounds, though please be aware we are not an official campsite and our facilities are limited. Sabhal Mòr Ostaig
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture. Based in Sleat, Isle of Skye, we are the only centre of Higher and Further Education in the world that provides its learning programmes entirely through the medium of Gaelic in an immersed, language-rich environment. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2023, having been established before the first Gaelic-medium units appeared in primary schools throughout Scotland. Today, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the biggest employer of Scottish Gaelic speakers in the world.
