Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is very excited to welcome the Tenor Banjo to their 2019 short courses program with the extremely talented Conor Markey!

This workshop is aimed at players from Improving Beginner to Intermediate levels. With a main focus being on relaxation, technique, developing of the musical ear, improvisation skills, variation within tunes and composition exploration. We will also explore tunes with routes from Scotland, Ireland and America to name a few. This course will be a unique learning experience and lots of fun is sure to be had!

Conor Markey

Conor Markey based in Glasgow is a multi-instrumentalist with his main focus and passion for close to 20 years being tenor banjo music. Lately being a full time member of the award winning Paul McKenna Band for the last 3 years, Conor is a highly sought after musician and his passion and dedication to traditional folk music has seen him playing extensively through Europe, The U.S, Canada and Australia appearing at festivals alongside acts such as Dougie Maclean, Declan Sinnott, Foy Vance, Four Men and a Dog, The East Pointers and Réalta. In his youth Conor was several times an All-Britain Tenor Banjo champion and All-Ireland finalist, and has played constantly through the Glasgow folk scene since.
