Gabe McVarish grew up in California but had strong connections with Nova Scotia and Morar in the West Highlands of Scotland.  Having learnt the fiddle at an early age and attending camps such as Alasdair Fraser’s California school, he was twice United States Junior Scottish Fiddle Champion by the age of seventeen.

When he came to live in Scotland he studied under the renowned Lochaber fiddler and tutor,  Angus Grant Sr.  Gabe also earned a BA in Traditional Music at Glasgow’s R.S.A.M.D (now RCS) and has played with many bands and musicians but is now most recognized as the fiddler from the highly successful Gaelic group Dàimh.

His versatility as a tutor has seen him highly sought after, having taught at festivals and higher education establishments including the University of Limerick.  His playing Worldwide has earned him an International reputation of being one of the must see performers in the fiddling world and he is always sought after for playing at dances throughout the west coast of Scotland and the islands beyond.

This course is for students competent at playing at an intermediate level and above.  Participants are advised to bring their own fiddle with them.
