This course has been introduced for the benefit of students at an advanced level who wish to improve their conversation skills.

The course will be consists of conversational Gaelic, built around vocabulary and concepts gained through Gaelic sayings and drawn from literature and folklore. Sessions will allow the student to contribute to discussions using their own experiences, and will encourage them to utilise new vocabulary and themes to enhance conversation skills. It is intended that students will build up a repertoire of phrases and structures which will help build confidence, enabling students to have deeper, more varied, and more fluid conversations on a range of different subjects.

The course will be led by John Urquhart, maybe with a little help from his wife, Muriel! Both of them have taught at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig for many years. Their classes have entertained both staff and full-time students, educating them on subjects such as idiomatic expressions, traditional sayings, vocabulary and short stories, and offering opportunities for conversations at an advanced level.

Born and raised in Harris, and a long-time resident of the Isle of Skye, John is not only a teacher and minister, but also an artist, writer and broadcaster. You can hear him on Rèidio nan Gàidheal, the welcoming host of the highly regarded programme for Gaelic learners, Beag air Bheag.

Iain will also be tutoring on the following courses for advanced learners:
17/07 – 21/07/2017 Beartas Cainnt (Language Enrichment)
31/07 – 04/08/2017 Cùrsa Fuaimneachaidh (Pronounciation Course)
