Sabhal Mòr Ostaig are very excited to have the talented Ross Martin teaching guitar as part of its 2020 Easter short courses program!
Ross will encourage participants to explore the melodic, harmonic and accompaniment aspects of one of the most versatile instruments in traditional music. Techniques and theory will be combined by looking at enhancing chord choices behind tunes and songs, choosing melodies to flat pick and arranging simple tunes into larger pieces. The course is designed to cater for acoustic guitarists in any tuning but participants are encouraged to be reasonably confident in whatever tuning they play in.Teaching will be done both by ear and visually with tab and chord charts for certain pieces available throughout the course as appropriate.
There’s space for up to 12 people on the course – to ensure your place please book early!
About Ross:
Ross is a founding member of the multiple award winning Highland band Daimh and has also recorded and toured the world with international singers such as Scotland’s own Julie Fowlis; Muireann Nic Amlaoibh and Karan Casey from Ireland, Breton legend Yann Fanch Kemener and U.S. alt-country cult star Bonnie Prince Billy. Ross is also in constant demand in Scotland and Ireland to accompany many of the scene’s most innovative instrumentalists including Niall and Cillian Vallely, Finlay MacDonald, Donal O’Connor and John McSherry. Best known for his pioneering DADGAD playing, Ross is equally at home in standard tuning.
