**This course is now fully-booked. Please contact us to be added to the waiting-list.***
If you intend to book a group of people on this course, please note that each delegate must create their own account and register in their own name. It is not possible to use the same login account to book different people.
We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment as this course is always oversubscribed. We will be requesting a non-refundable deposit of £100 (payable within 30 days of payment request) from each application to guarantee a place on the course. The remainder of the participant’s balance will need to be settled by 30th April 2019 at the latest, otherwise their place on course will be allocated to someone else who is on the waiting list. We have introduced this measure as we have previously received many speculative applications resulting in late cancellations which deprives others from being able to join the course at short notice. We are more than happy to discuss flexibility in arranging payment if required.
If you have any questions regarding this, please speak to us at 01471 888 240/246 or by contacting us by email
For over 30 years now, Sabhal Mòr is again hosting its annual fiddle camp with world-renowned Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser alongside American cellist Natalie Haas and their team of tutors.
The camp holds the unique honour of being the only one taught by Alasdair in the whole of the UK, and each year, students from Scotland and around the globe return to join Alasdair and Natalie in creating a unique experience on the Isle of Skye.
The week is an energising and creative one, with several class levels supported by Alasdair, Natalie and their experienced and encouraging fellow tutors. The week includes not just classes, but a range of unique workshops, lively performances and the opportunity to get to know other musicians and participate in group work for all abilities. Classes are held daily and sessions/concerts are enjoyed nightly, with a huge final cèilidh on the last night of the week.
If staying at the College, we recommend arriving here on the evening of Friday 19th July to give you a chance to socialise and settle in for this intensive week’s instruction. The course opens with registration and a welcome from Alasdair on the afternoon of Saturday 20th followed by an informal familiarization session with Alasdair and Natalie. You will meet the course tutors and be introduced to some of the tunes you will be covering over the week, and it is usually at this stage that you will be briefed on the different levels of learning to find the one that is right for you.
Much of the learning is by ear and this method may influence the level you select. Most abilities will be catered for, although it is expected that students will have at least a basic knowledge of fiddle/cello. Please note: Sheet music may not be issued by tutors.
Formal instruction will begin in the classrooms on Sunday the morning of the 21st, supplemented by workshops in the afternoon and evening activities that take advantage of the unique camaraderie that evolves in the camp throughout the week. There’s course banquet and cèilidh on Thursday where the students can perform the groupwork they have been doing that week, and/or as individuals.
The course ends on Friday the 27th with a final concert with students and tutors, followed by another final cèilidh – which usually ends in the early hours of Saturday morning – we recommend that you stay for this sepcial event!
