On this course you will be guided through playing, arranging and accompaniment on the Clàrsach in Highland and traditional music by a duo who have a personal bond with the language and culture of the music they play. Ingrid, from Lochaber,  has been teaching the Clàrsach for over 20 years having learnt herself from the world renowned harpist Savourna Stevenson.  As well as performing on stages throughout the world as a solo artist or with bands such as ‘Cliar’, Ingrid is currently the principal harp tutor at the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music and lectures on the BA Gaelic & Traditional Music at the college.

Joining Ingrid this coming summer, will be Deirdre Graham, who will be acting as an additional tutor.  Originally from Skye, Deirdre has been teaching for fèisean and councils for many years, and she spent five years teaching music over  in China, Spain and Malaysia. Deirdre can also be heard collaborating and singing with various bands, most often with Niteworks, both at home in Scotland and abroad.

With two tutors now teaching on the course, we would like to extend a welcome to not only those who have already reached a high standard of playing, but also those who have recently come to the instrument.

As part of this course, there will be a chance to work with the ‘A Seascape of Gaelic Song – Part 2′ course which is taking

place at the College during the same week under the direction of world renowned Gaelic singer, Margaret Stewart.  This will allow for collaborative work and a chance to accompany the singers.

It is also recommended that you bring your own instrument with you in order to take part in the course.

Here are some comments from a previous course with Ingrid:

“A very friendly course with great atmosphere”
“Ingrid is a great tutor”
“Really enjoyed it and found it very beneficial.  I will be coming back!”
