Step-dancing with Sophie Stephenson, a traditional musician, performer and step-dancer from Fort Augustus. In 2016 Sophie will be leading her own course at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig where she first attended step-dancing classes, with Harvey Beaton twelve years ago. Sophie is an experienced and encouraging tutor, having performed at camps and festivals throughout Scotland, Canada, the United States and Norway, and having attended the University of Edinburgh, Colaiste Bheinn na Faoghla, and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, as well as tutoring regularly with Fèisean nan Gàidheal. Sophie will be bringing step-dance back to the Short Courses at Sabhal Mòr in an informal, relaxed environment focussed on learning basic footwork and on building a repertoire of strathspey, jig and reel steps.

This course welcomes students of all ages and all abilities.

“Well-taught despite a variety of dancing experience from none to very advanced. So wonderful having a fiddler who not only plays at the right speed for all the different levels, but who could also help with teaching.”

“The step dance instruction was great. The tutor is very knowledgable with a lovely personality. I am a complete beginner and Sophie did an excellent job of managing a class with different levels. Eilidh our fiddler was great!”

“Sophie is very energetic and enthusiastic with talent and ideas.”
